The Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mr. Solly Malatsi (MP), will on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, lead two events in KwaZulu-Natal’s uMngeni Local Municipality, focused on expanding digital access and advancing South Africa’s digital transformation agenda.

These events form part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide by strengthening digital education in schools and fast-tracking the completion of the Broadcast Digital Migration (BDM) programme.

PART 1: CYBERLAB LAUNCH AT SIBONGUMBOVU COMBINED SCHOOL

The Minister will officially launch a new Cyberlab at Sibongumbovu Combined School, developed in partnership with Software AG. These labs equip schools with robotics kits, smartboards, laptops, and coding infrastructure to build digital skills among learners in under-resourced areas.

PART 2: BDM HOUSEHOLD VISIT – DIGITAL TV HANDOVER

As part of the Department’s commitment to ensuring no one is left behind in the Broadcast Digital Migration (BDM), Minister Malatsi will visit the home of Ms. Nompinqo Lesia Ngubame, a 103-year-old resident who is receiving a fully installed Integrated Digital Television (IDTV) and Smart Set-Top Box under the BDM outreach programme.
