After extensive consultations with all stakeholders, the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Hon Mondli Gungubele announced a two-step win-win approach towards Analogue Switch-Off and end of dual illumination in the country.

The first step of this two-step approach was concluded on 31 July 2023 and saw the switch- off of analogue services above 694MHz and the release of spectrum for use by telecommunications companies who bought it in the successful auction of 17 March 2022.

The second step will see gradual analogue switch-off culminating in total switch-off of analogue television transmission in the country by 31 December 2024.

Working with the broadcasters and entities of the Department, a countrywide awareness is undertaken to ensure that households migrate to digital television. This campaign includes registration and installation of free government decoders to qualifying households.

A focused campaign to which members of the media are invited is scheduled for the Eastern Cape Province, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality as follows:
