The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (“GIZ”) and the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (“NEMISA”) are on track to host various stakeholders from the length and breadth of our country in the upcoming National Digital and Future Skills Conference which will deliberate on ways to close the digital skills gap that exists in our society.
The conference will take place under the theme: “Realising the Digital Economy and Scaling-Up Skills Development to Support Innovation and the Digital Revolution” and will be held at the East London International Convention Centre from 26-27 October 2023.
What is critical for the conference is an assessment of the digital economy landscape in relation to the skills that are required for South Africa to close the digital skills gaps that are often referred to be the main challenge in the labour market. Most importantly is for the conference to come up with bold actions to be taken to fulfil the recommendations made by the Presidential Commission on 4IR.
Key to the discussions will be concentration on the partnerships and the creation of a sustainable and agile system of producing digital skills for South Africa.
